This page concerns the CarnaFish mobile app (iOS and Android), published by CarnaFish, reachable at contact@carnafish.com. It explains how to request the deletion of your account and of the data attached to it.
1. From the app (immediate)
If you still have the app installed, this is the fastest route:
- Open CarnaFish and sign in.
- Go to My account.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose Delete my account.
- Confirm.
Deletion is then immediate and permanent: there is no cooling-off period, and the account cannot be restored.
2. By email (without the app)
You have uninstalled the app, you can no longer sign in, or you would simply rather go through us: write to contact@carnafish.com.
Send your request from the email address of your account: that is how we verify the account is yours. Please include:
- the subject line "Delete my account";
- your username in the app;
- the account email address, if you are writing from a different mailbox.
If you signed up with Sign in with Apple and hid your address, write from the @privaterelay.appleid.com relay address you were given, or send us your username: we will then ask you to confirm from the address linked to the account.
We will never ask for your password, for an ID document, or for proof of payment.
What happens next
- We acknowledge your request within 72 working hours.
- We ask you to confirm by reply, once, so that no account is erased by mistake or by someone else.
- The account is deleted within 30 days at most of that confirmation — in practice within a few days. You get an email as soon as it is done.
The request is free and you do not have to give a reason.
3. What is deleted
Deletion covers the entire account, not just part of the data. The following is permanently removed:
- your account and sign-in methods: email, password, Apple or Google link;
- your profile: username, photo, bio, country, statistics;
- your catches and the whole catch log: photos, videos, species, lengths, weights, dates, conditions, gear;
- your spots and their coordinates, including those shared with friends;
- your posts, comments and likes;
- your friends, friend requests and blocked accounts;
- your messages and conversations;
- your contest entries and ranking;
- your notification tokens and preferences;
- your AI analysis history.
None of it stays visible to other members, and we keep no usable copy of it.
4. What is kept, and for how long
- Proof of purchase and accounting records (amount, date, purchase identifier): the law requires us to keep these for up to 10 years. They serve that accounting and tax obligation only, and are no longer attached to an active profile.
- Moderation reports concerning you: kept for up to 1 year in reduced form (reason, date), to protect other members — otherwise a sanctioned account could wipe its history by signing up again.
- Encrypted technical backups: a residual copy may remain there for the length of their rotation, 30 days at most. They are never consulted or reused, and are overwritten automatically.
Nothing else is kept. We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
5. Careful: your Premium subscription is not cancelled
Subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play, never by us: deleting your CarnaFish account does not stop the charge. Cancel it first, from your phone:
- iPhone / iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › CarnaFish › Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play › profile picture › Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions › CarnaFish › Cancel.
We can neither cancel a subscription on your behalf nor refund a purchase: those requests go to Apple or Google.
6. Before you go that far
If you only want to step back, you do not have to lose everything: in the app you can delete a single catch, photo, spot, post or conversation, make your catches private, turn off notifications or block a member. Your account stays intact.
7. Your rights
Deleting your account is how you exercise the right to erasure under the GDPR. You also have rights of access, rectification, restriction, portability and objection: write to contact@carnafish.com. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL).
